Policies of the Sea-to-Sky Singers
The Sea to Sky
Singers is a non profit, enthusiastic adult cornmunity choir dedicated
to professionalism, learning, and performing a variety of music within
and outside the Squamish district.
The Sea to Sky
Singers aim constantly to improve and grow. In order to reach our
goals, we have some general expectations:
- Singers
are required to attend rehearsals and concerts on time. It is important
for the whole ensemble to be ready at the designated time. If you
are unable to arrive on time, please notify your Section Captain or the
Music Director.
- Singers
are required to have a private voice placement
with the Music Director, who will assign your part based on your tone
colour and range.
- Singers
must refrain from socializing during rehearsals. Talking
over the Music Director's instructions or while another section is
rehearsing is distracting and counter-productive to the choir's goals.
Please use the time to rehearse your own part in your head, or sing
along with the practising section. A short break is built into
rehearsal time to socialize.
- Singers
are
required to have an open, positive attitude to develop their singing
voices and prepare polished performances.
- Many
hands make light work, and we require that singers participate in the
many
roles of the choir, including the Executive Committee, and/or accepting
responsibilities in raising money for the choir, and promoting the
choir and its concerts through word of mouth, marketing, ticket sales,
and sponsorships.
Regular
attendance is crucial. If you are unable to attend a rehearsal,
please
notify your Section Captain. Please discuss your situation with the
Music Director if you need to miss more than three rehearsals per term.
Rehearsals are
closed. Guests are not allowed to listen without advance
permission
from the Music Director.
Please come
prepared to every rehearsal. Please keep your music in good condition
in a file or folder. Bring a pencil to mark your score as directed by
the conductor. You may wish to bring a bottle of water.
Dress Rehearsals
do not require Singers to come in uniform, but all concerts require a
uniform. Stay tuned for details.
Please, no
perfume, strong scents, or "noisy" jewellery during rehearsals or
concerts.
All music, with
all marks erased, must be returned after the final concert of the term.
Sea to Sky
Singers meets every Tuesday from 7-9 PM. Please consult your calendar
and add or change dates as necessary. Changes to the schedule
will
be discussed at rehearsals and posted on this website. Christmas
carolling dates will be added as these become known.
Important messages and changes will be sent by e-mail. If you do
not have e-mail, it is your responsibility to set up a "buddy" who can
pass on messages to you.
Please feel free to discuss any or all of these issues with our
President, Sheron Johnson, other members of the Executive
Committee or me. I look forward to making music with you,
Veronica McPhee

N.B. You now have access to a wonderful selection of choral music on
the NAXOS music site;
however, to hear this you will need to instal Media Player (a
free download), and you will need the user name and access code that
Veronica can give to you. An alternative is the Earthnet
site. This will play music on Quicktime, but the
sound is computer generated, and not so good to listen to..
